Pick up your rental car at Calgary Airport and hit the Trans-Canada Highway 1 — your first sight of the Rockies rising from the plains sets the tone for the trip ahead. It is a 130 km drive (about 90 minutes) to Banff. Check in and spend the evening strolling Banff Avenue, soaking in the mountain town atmosphere.
A full day to explore one of Canada's most iconic mountain towns. Ride the Banff Gondola for sweeping summit views, soak in the Upper Hot Springs, walk to Bow Falls, and take a boat cruise on Lake Minnewanka. End the day at Two Jack Lake for unforgettable mountain reflections at sunset.
Drive to the world-famous Lake Louise and take in its impossibly turquoise glacial waters. Hike the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail for panoramic views, then visit the equally stunning Moraine Lake. Round out the day with a walk through Johnston Canyon to its stunning waterfalls.
Drive one of the world's most spectacular roads — the Icefields Parkway. Stop at Mistaya Canyon for a short walk, experience the Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure on the Athabasca Glacier, and pass dramatic waterfalls and peaks all the way to Jasper. Check in to your log cabin for two nights.
Explore the wilder, quieter side of the Rockies. Walk through Maligne Canyon, boat out to the famous Spirit Island on Maligne Lake, and soak in the Miette Hot Springs — the hottest natural hot springs in the Canadian Rockies. An epic long drive day through true Canadian wilderness — roughly 500 km and 5.5 hours of driving via Highways 16 and 5. Stop at Medicine Lake in the morning and the Mt Robson viewpoint en route.
